£100,000 Fund Raising Target Achieved!
Robert Ellis were very pleased to be involved with the final Eric Gibson and Motor Neurone Disease charity golf day held on 27th June at Beeston Fields Golf Club.
The day brought over 100 friends and ex-work colleagues of Eric together to play in what was the 8th golf day held to remember Eric and to raise funds for the local branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Unlike the previous two years, we had a very hot and sunny weather which certainly did contribute to making this a most enjoyable day for all the players involved and for people who joined in the evening for the presentation meal and charity auction.
The winning teams were:
1st The Committee Men – Dave, Dave, Ian & Angus
2nd Super Reds – Dave, Alex, Geoff & Steve
3rd Rayden Ramblers – Richard, Ben, David & David
4th Cooper Parry Wealth – Colin, Del, Peter & Lorraine
And nearest the pin prize holes – 3rd hole Peter Benson, 11th hole Greg Duthie, 14th hole Dave Halstead and 18th hole Steve Hawley.
The charity golf day first started in 2011 which is the year Eric passed away from this horrible disease. The main organisers for each year have been Eric’s ex-work colleague at Northern Rock and Virgin Money – John Dixon, playing partner at Beeston Fields GC where Eric was very much involved with the committee and was a past captain – Bob Hand and our own Mark Philpott who knew Eric well and has also been a playing member of Beeston Fields for many years.
The golf days have always been well supported by teams of people who knew Eric from Beeston Fields and through working with Eric from being involved with the mortgage and property industry in the East Midlands.
Our special thanks go to all the people who have played in the golf days over the past 8 years, the management and team at Beeston Fields Golf Club who have always helped to make the golf day so special for all those involved, including Eric’s wife Evelyn and her boys, to the people who have provided support for the event in terms of sponsorship and providing lots for the charity auction, which has always been one of our main fundraising activities.
We would like to say a special thank you to George Brewster and Ian Ferguson of J&E Shepherd surveyors who knew Eric well and for each year have provided tee times at Gleneagles for the auction, which has always helped raise a lot of money – many thanks, George and Ian!
This was our final golf day and as well as having such an enjoyable day to remember Eric, we have managed to raise over the £15,000 we needed to achieve this year to hit the overall fundraising target of £100,000. In fact, we raised over £17,000 from this year’s golf day which means we have nicely exceeded our £100,000 target. All the money raised has been donated to the local branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association to help people in the Nottingham and surrounding area who have been suffering from this currently incurable disease.
Mark said “It has been great fun organising the golf days and we are so pleased that so many people have been involved over the years and helped to raise such a lot of money for the MNDA and to remember Eric who was such a lovely man who was taken away from us so early. As well as John, Bob and myself, all the people involved in the day who work at Robert Ellis feel very privileged to have been part of such a successful event which after raising the money we have feels like the right time to draw it to an end”.
