A Guide to the Town

Living in Long Eaton

Situated mid-way between Nottingham and Derby is the wonderful town of Long Eaton, easily accessed from J24 and J25 of the M1. Do not let its modest size fool you; this gem of a town has marvellous transport links that are a commuter’s dream. It has its own train station, a reliable bus service network and of course, the ease of accessing East Midlands Airport from J24 of the M1. East Midlands Parkway train Station is easily accessible for those needing rail services and the A50, A52 and A42 allows motorists direct access to both the East and West midlands.

In addition, Nottingham’s Tram service with its own 140-space ‘Park and ride’ goes through nearby Beeston, enhancing Long Eaton’s accessibility. The much publicised HS2 rail link at Toton is scheduled to be completed around 2032/2033, meaning commuters will be able to travel to London in a mere 52 minutes. Toton itself is a little over a mile from Long Eaton.

The town offers numerous local and national retailers including Aldi, Lidl, Iceland, Tesco and Asda, as well as having its own market day on Fridays. As you stroll down the high street, remember to look up as there is some fantastic architecture to admire; the towns Library for example has a wonderful mosaic above its entrance and several of the banks are housed in beautiful buildings. West Park is Long Eaton’s main leisure facility and boasts tennis courts, a cricket ground, football pitches, a bowling green and even a skate park! There are heated swimming pools as well as a gym and fitness centre, and when you’ve worked up a sweat, you can relax in its cafe. They also offer a crèche so that little ones can enjoy themselves whilst adults try to stay healthy and fit to keep up with them.
