Living in Long Eaton
Situated mid-way between Nottingham and Derby is the wonderful town of Long Eaton, easily accessed from J24 and J25 of the M1. Do not let its modest size fool you; this gem of a town has marvellous transport links that are a commuterâs dream. It has its own train station, a reliable bus service network and of course, the ease of accessing East Midlands Airport from J24 of the M1. East Midlands Parkway train Station is easily accessible for those needing rail services and the A50, A52 and A42 allows motorists direct access to both the East and West midlands.
In addition, Nottinghamâs Tram service with its own 140-space âPark and rideâ goes through nearby Beeston, enhancing Long Eatonâs accessibility. The much publicised HS2 rail link at Toton is scheduled to be completed around 2032/2033, meaning commuters will be able to travel to London in a mere 52 minutes. Toton itself is a little over a mile from Long Eaton.
The town offers numerous local and national retailers including Aldi, Lidl, Iceland, Tesco and Asda, as well as having its own market day on Fridays. As you stroll down the high street, remember to look up as there is some fantastic architecture to admire; the towns Library for example has a wonderful mosaic above its entrance and several of the banks are housed in beautiful buildings. The retail park located out-of-town at Chilwell is great for shopping with stores such as TK Maxx, Matalan, Sports Direct and Marks & Spencer food.
As well as retail therapy, Long Eaton offers an impressive selection of recreational and leisure options for everyone to enjoy. For sporty types there are two leisure centres to choose from, West Park and Grange Park, that offer plenty of choice, whether indoor or outdoor.
West Park is Long Eatonâs main leisure facility and boasts tennis courts, a cricket ground, football pitches, a bowling green and even a skate park! There are heated swimming pools as well as a gym and fitness centre, and when youâve worked up a sweat, you can relax in its cafe. They also offer a crèche so that little ones can enjoy themselves whilst adults try to stay healthy and fit to keep up with them.
swimming poolThe Clifford Health Club and Spa on Regent Street offers fantastic facilities and has several membership options for you to choose from. A few miles away in Sawley you will find the Trent Lock Golf Club and Conference Centre, so if Golf is your passion why not go and avail yourselves of the great facilities there.
If you enjoy walking the Attenborough Nature reserve isnât far out of town and is the perfect place to really appreciate natureâs beauty. Long Eatonâs Canal system also gives those who love the great outdoors plenty of routes to stroll along. For those feeling fitter or more experienced with distance walking, then why not walk into Derby City Centre itself from Long Eaton, passing through the wonderful scenery of Elvaston Castle Country Park as you go; your Fitbit 10,000 steps target will easily be met! Other country walks in the area are at St Chads Water and Orchid Wood in nearby Draycott.
If boating rather than walking is your passion then nearby Sawley Marina offers everything you could wish for. Situated on a navigational cut of the River Trent close to Long Eaton, Its the largest Inland Marina in the U.K with 23 acres of water space. Most of the 120 planning approved residential moorings have Electricity and Water connected and other on site amenities include car parking, storage facilities, CCTV and security gated piers with 24/7 emergency call out. Platinum moorings are set in an exclusive corner of the Marina with their own car parking and refuse disposal areas. The bijou, tree lined wharf is close to the facilities including the Chandlery and Restaurant and is the Midlands most popular choice for value-for-money moorings.
One event that Long Eaton residents are rightly proud of is the annual Long Eaton Carnival. It is equally enjoyable whether you are one of the participants or a spectator. Robert Ellis join the parade every year, giving out balloons, bags and sweets to the crowd. It really does have a great community spirit to it that the whole family can appreciate!
cafeFoodies will find plenty of choice in Long Eaton, so whether you fancy a takeaway at home, the buzz of a gastro pub or simply a good restaurant, you will not have far to look. The choice of eateries is increasing all the time to meet the demand of residents, giving more and more vibrancy to the town. Curry lovers will find plenty to tempt them at Al Naseeb Indian Restaurant in the Market Place, or why not check out The Sportsman on Derby Road, or Butchers Bar and Steakhouse on West Gate. On Station Street, there is the Hills at The Railway venue, a recently expanded site that was formerly two adjacent businesses; Railway Station Restaurant and Hills Bar and Grill. In addition to these, there is the Eaton Farm Pub and a micro-pub at York Chambers to enjoy if you just want a tipple with friends rather than a meal.
